2020 Vacation: Part 1

We were planning on leaving tomorrow for Utah, so I'd planned to pack all of Friday, as we'd be gone for two whole weeks.  So when the boys meet me at the door after picking up a few things for the trip from Target (first time I've been there in months) with, "Dad wants to leave tonight," right before Randy says, "I want to leave today at like noon," when it's 10:30am, I instantly become furious.  Ask me what I'd done the day before while Randy was waterskiing with friends?  I sat in my bed and read a great book because I knew I'd be packing the next day.  I could have packed the day before if I'd have known he wanted to leave early!

Disclaimer: I know I am completely ridiculous in my packing habits, but I can't change them on the fly.  I have to wash all of the laundry so I know what we have, then I gather the piles of each and every person in a specific way, then I pack the bags, then I clean the house, including things like making sure that the towels under the sink are straight, in case someone comes looking through my cupboards...  It's horrible, but it's the way I function when packing.  The house is spotless so we come home and have minimal work once we unpack.  It works for me... except when he tells me he wants to leave in about an hour and a half and I haven't even begun the laundry.

In his defense, Randy did tell me many times that we didn't have to go.  But he used a tone that picks at my personality, so we packed in a rush and got on the road.  It was funny to hear Tyson say, "Usually it takes us all day to pack, but today we did it in like an hour!"  He noticed.  Funny that it should have made me feel proud we'd accomplished everything so quickly, but it only fueled my hate-fire.  Seriously, I was a petulant child until we made it to Oregon just a few miles away.  I have my quirks, I know them, I feel embarrassed with them sometimes, other times I'm proud of them, whatevs.  I'm just glad Randy loves me despite my temper tantrums and OCD-like quirks.
Danielle was good enough to change her plans for us to arrive at her home after Midnight.  That was one of the reasons I was so enraged-- how rude that we could possibly wake her sleeping babes with our arrival, especially with how loud my kids' whispers are when they argue over who gets what couch and Mira's tail is when she beats it in excitement.  But everything worked out well.  I don't like driving when it is dark, but Randy was right-- it was nice to have the drive over and now have a full Saturday to spend as we wanted.

Saturday:
While Danielle was at the gym, Randy and Taylor fixed a hole in the wall that has access to their water main.  This meant I got to spend hours with Audrey and Drew.

Once they had the wall to a point that Taylor could finish it off, we went to my parents, leaving Mira with Danielle for the duration of our vacation.  I love that my family loves Mira enough to ask if she can stay with them not only for the vacation but forever.

Sunday: We spent Father's Day with my family.  I seriously wish that Ashlee and Russ could have been there, but Russ's vacation doesn't happen until July.  The day we would arrive home is the day that they'd make it to our home on their way down to Utah.  Darn it!
