Tunnel

To get out of the house, Randy and I went for a drive yesterday afternoon.  Being a mover and a goer, Randy is losing his mind in at-home quarantine.  We didn't go near a single person, but it was a nice change of scenery.

While out, we found the coolest place.  As you pass over the bridge that is the border of Oregon and Washington, if you look to the right as you enter Washington land you'll see an old cave tunnel.  We were intrigued since we'd never noticed it before during all of our trips home.  Randy pulled off the interstate and we searched for the road that would take us to the trailhead to walk in that tunnel.  At one point Randy was going on roads that clearly weren't the one, but he just wanted an excuse to do some four-wheeling.  Eventually, after many a bump and brakes, we found the exact place to park the car and walk along the trail.  Not a single person or car in sight.  We made plans to take our kids soon.  Today was that day.

The trailhead was this cool corrugated metal tunnel that took you under the interstate.  Mira wasn't too sure about walking in, but we assured her she was ok.
From this distance, the tunnel looked huge.

Then you see Randy looking up at the ceiling and realize that it is even bigger when you are in it than you thought it would be.

We'd taken some chest lamps, not knowing how long the tunnel would be.  Turns out, we didn't need them.
That is McNarry Dam in the distance.

You can see the bridge that connects Oregon to Washington, the bridge we have gone over many times yet never seen this place.

It was 80 degrees outside, but the cliff shaded us from the sun and the breeze from the water cooled us nicely.  It was perfect.  Had we known it would be so amazing, we'd have brought chairs and shoes the kids could get in the water with.  The rocks are the type I want for landscaping, but not to walk around barefoot on.

Mira was in heaven.  Look at that smile!

We didn't see a single person, didn't risk infecting someone with covid, even though we haven't had a single symptom.  Just three more days until we're FREE!!!
