Code Names

Ashlee left a game called Code Names when they were here for the funeral.  We've played it a few times with a couple different adult couples, and love it.  It's a really fun game.  We tried playing it on Sunday with our kids during a Family Game Day.  It's not the same playing with young kids.

The gist of the game is to use one word to describe words on the board that your teammates can associate together.  A few examples would be "Rain" for "Drop" or "City" for "Phoenix."  You can only use a single word, but you can try and get more than one word association.  It is really fun as both the guesser and the team leader.  There's more to the game that adds more depth and difficulty, but it is really hard when you think they'll get it, that there is no way they could miss it, but they just don't.  It's a critical thinking game, for sure.  No wonder it's not the same with kids.  Randy said "Doctor" in reference to the word "Nurse," saying there was just one word on the board that would match.  Immediately Brennon said, "Brush!  Tyson, I think it's Brush!"  When Tyson asked him why he thought that, Brennon replied, "Because Doctors are always telling you to brush your teeth!"  Needless to say, the game is very different with kids.

It was really fun to watch the kids try and think of words that were associated, and being the one to give the clues.  They did a really great job!  It's a really great game to get your kids' minds working and thinking.  Just don't expect kids to think the same way as adults.

We also played Ticket to Ride (2x), Settlers or Catan (2x), and Beat the Parents.  It was a really fun day at the kitchen table.
